Gulaga Mountain and many parts of the Narooma region have held sacred significance for the Yuin Aboriginal community for tens of thousands of years yet the stories are not widely known. The traditional custodians of Yuin country Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness an Aboriginal owned and operated initiative invite you to come, walk and listen to a sacred dreaming of creation that Gulaga holds, this experience will enlighten you to a traditional way of knowing and experience first hand ceremony and dreaming stories that have been passed down.


What to expect 
Immerse yourself on Yuin country lead by the traditional custodians you will hear and see stories of land, kinship and dreaming - the perfect environment to explore and experience Aboriginal culture. Enjoy a moderate two hour hike each way up and down Gulaga Mountain through picturesque countryside and rainforest areas of Gulaga National Park.
All this is complemented by traditional dance, ceremony, Indigenous local food  and yarning circles truly a way to connect to the first peoples culture and understand how the Yuin people connect and interpret country.

Accommodation
Accommodation is at the Island View Resort, Narooma in the Olympic Cabin it consists of 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen
facilities, open living and dining area with wood fire heater along with a large front deck. This is our minimum accommodation option so please be aware accommodation is shared and this creates a communal and family style effect for our unique immersion. We try and group couples, friends and family together into the layout of the cabins to the best of our ability.

If you specifically require a separate cabin or room we have private accommodation options (see below)

Location
Narooma is situated on the far South Coast of NSW, approx 4 hours drive South of Sydney and 3 hours drive South East from Canberra.

Airports
Narooma has 2 airports within an hours drive Moruya (40km- 25 min) and Merimbula (70km- 45 min)

Transport 
You require your own/group vehicle for this experience we have one trip to Gulaga that involves a 30km / 20 min round trip

Options

4wd escorts- this is the alternative to the 2 hour walk this is limited to the less mobile, you will be required to walk around 1km in total through the sacred sites with regular intervals. Please state you require this option in the special requirements.   

Private Accommodation- This option is extra- Max 4 pax per cabin- Linen and towels provided with this option please choose this upon booking.   

Tailored Tours - This is for midweek tours that can be extended or coordinated with conferences or staff development

Catering
For your convenience we cater and provide all meals for your experience, we use local produce and have an Indigenous flavor for our dinner and starter menus. Included in your package are 2 Buffett Indigenous flavored dinners, 1
self serve continental breakfast, 1 self serve packed day lunch and 1 cooked buffet brunch with continental option

6-7pm- Arrival - Check in and room allocations- Please park in visitors car park outside Olympic Cabin

7:00pm -Welcome to Country & Dance Performance 

Meeting point: Outside Olympic Cabin

7:30pm -Dinner

8:30pm-Creation tour briefing


Day 2

6:15am Sunrise Ceremony

Meeting point: Outside Olympic Cabin

7am Breakfast

8:30am Depart for Gulaga Mountain - Own transport

9.30am- Arrive@ Tilba to commence day tour and walk on Gulaga Mountain     

4-5:00pm -Return to Island View Resort (approx.)

8:00pm-Reflection Session Yarning Circle


Day 3  

8am-Beach Ceremony

9.30am-Farewell Brunch

11am -Conclusion of Tour- Depart Island View Beach Resort  


Important Information

This program is a non-alcoholic event.

Please be aware this program involves 4-5 hours of steady walking

We recommend that you bring adequate water for your walk, some supplies available however space is limited in the 4WD

What to bring

You'll need to bring the following:

- Lightweight, warm and wet weather clothing

- Good walking footwear

- Sunscreen, hat and insect repellant

- Large water bottle

- Backpack/Day pack

- Linen e.g. a sleeping bag or doona and top sheet (mattress and bottom sheet are provided)

-Towels

- Any personal medications or personal items

- A warm jacket is recommended
